Steve Appleby

As Chief Strategy Officer, Steve leads IIMBE’s continued expansion into new geographies, sectors, and partnerships. While delivering meaningful growth, he also keeps culture and clients at the heart of everything we do, working to ensure that our community gets value from every interaction they share with our company. Steve is passionate about building strong leadership teams, championing innovation, and delivering a high-quality service with integrity. He has over two decades of experience in the industry and a wealth of experience in leveraging the power of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Digital Engineering (DE) to improve productivity, increase collaboration, and reduce risks. 

Steve has helped to secure and lead some of IIMBE’s most iconic and groundbreaking projects. These include the redevelopment of the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall and the delivery of Atlassian Central in the heart of Sydney’s new tech and innovation district. Outside of IIMBE, his roles include being a founding committee member of MelBIM, a steering group member of the Victorian Digital Asset Strategy, and a member of the New Zealand Government’s BIM Acceleration Committee. This experience provides Steve with unique industry insights, which he uses to support and guide our clients and team. 

Steve’s insider knowledge for information management projects: “First, don’t accept jargon. If the business you’re working with can’t explain their approach or outcomes in layman’s terms, then you’ve got the wrong partner. Second, when introducing new technologies, make sure they align with your existing processes and platforms. This will make it easier for your teams and speed up the adoption process. Finally, remember, this is a change exercise. So, communication is key. After that, have fun and enjoy the ride!”
