Date 2020 - 2025 Client Atlassian Services BIM Management, Digital Delivery Location Sydney, Australia
The project
Atlassian, the global tech giant, has an ambition to reduce embodied carbon and energy consumption throughout each step of the development and occupation of their new Sydney headquarters in Australia. As part of the effort to reduce their environmental footprint and to improve the wellbeing of their staff, Atlassian identified IIMBE as having the cutting-edge technical know-how to help deliver on their aspirations by using efficient and effective technology as the foundation for their building design and construction.
As a world leader in developing leading technology, Atlassian understood the benefits of leveraging Building Information Modelling (BIM) to ensure a quality construction project with fewer problems. IIMBE’s multitude of building management systems to monitor and manage building information all in the one place is something that Atlassian values highly.
When the project is completed in 2026, Atlassian’s new building will anchor the NSW Government’s proposed Technology and Innovation Precinct. The building is targeted to consume 50% less carbon in construction and 50% less energy compared to a conventional equivalent building, and will also operate on 100% renewable energy, becoming a poster-child for similar construction.
Here’s how IIMBE is making it happen
Atlassian understands that by unlocking the power of BIM, multiple teams working on different parts of their complex project can collaborate in real time around the same structured information, raising issues and conflicts that need resolution quickly before they lead to time and cost overruns.
By harnessing the industry and technology expertise of IIMBE, Atlassian knows that the project team will have a complete and simple view of the entire project, meaning that critical decisions that need to be made day-to-day on the project can be data-driven. This means they will be more precise, accurate, and help mitigate further risks to the project’s delivery.
Assisting in timely delivery is a core strength of IIMBE Digital Delivery processes. By using the embedded data across the BIM ecosystem, and coupled with the online collaboration platform, real insight can be gleaned on historical and future progress.
Benefits of having IIMBE involved
Atlassian appointed IIMBE as their trusted digital partner and leader in Building Information Modelling because we can rapidly consolidate the information requirements of Atlassian into a well-defined and logical documented approach that was easy to understand and consume, without the risk of misinterpretation and human error.
Having a sophisticated, but simple to use and understand one-stop-shop monitoring and managing all digital facets of the project’s delivery means there will be significant time and cost efficiencies, as issues are identified and rectified much faster.
As Atlassian have globally distributed teams, it is paramount to standardise information management practices so teams can all view, use and update the same design information in real time.
The benefit to clients such as Atlassian isn’t just in the building process. Because our system captures rich data about all components of the building during its creation, IIMBE adds further value to any project by compiling an evidence-based plan to help asset owners maximise efficiencies of the ongoing operation of the project – the longer-term time and cost savings are significant and of ongoing benefit to our clients, such as Atlassian.
Our primary focus on this project is to provide Atlassian with the right information, at the right time, to make informed decisions during planning, development and through the management of their new building into the future.
